I'm Pausing This Newsletter, and I'm Not Going to Dress It Up as a Pivot

Let's be honest: readers are leaving. I had to pick one bet, and it wasn't this one.

"After major stats drops in readership and subscribers for both newsletters, I'm running an experiment for the next 90 days to double down on LYD and freeze my AI Substack, Late to the Future. If there aren't major changes in readership by my birthday in November... well... then maybe I really aren't cut out for any of this in 2026."

Hey —

Late To The Future is on pause. I don’t know for how long. Maybe a while.

The honest version: both this newsletter and my other one, Little Yellow Different, have been losing readers. And at some point I had to ask myself whether writing is still worth doing at all.

I decided I owe it one real answer. So I’m running a concentrated sprint — one newsletter, real effort, see what happens. To do that, something had to go.

If you want to keep reading, I’m over at Little Yellow Different. It’s personal essays — tech, identity, my father, the specific comedy of being a Gen X Taiwanese-American who should really know better by now. I’ll still have things to say about AI, but through that lens: what it actually feels like to use it, worry about it, and occasionally want to throw it out a window.

No hard feelings if you unsubscribe here. I get it.
